AARP Endorses Affordable Health Care for America ActIt's hard to miss the irony. AARP has fully endorsed the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962) and the accompanying Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act (H.R. 3961), citing "nearly two years of work with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to craft a health care reform plan that meets the needs of AARP's nearly 40 million members and all older Americans." Yet Iowa's Fifth District Rep. Steve King — whose job is to represent and serve the needs of Iowa's biggest "senior" district — refuses to support the health care reform that would benefit not just older Iowans but King's 66,000 constituents currently without health insurance. The House recently passed its plan to overhaul the nation's health care system, but King caved to intense pressure from insurance industry lobbyists and voted against health reform that, according to the AARP, would protect and strengthen Medicare for today's seniors and future generations of retirees. Before health reform can become law, it must pass one more time through the House of Representatives, which means Rep. King will have one more opportunity to reverse course and support reform. We must publicly show that voters in our district support reform and are counting on him to represent Iowa's seniors and the uninsured. Your words could mean all the difference in convincing Congress to part with the lobbyists, stand with voters and help ensure real health reform passes this year. Call Rep. King and your Iowa Senators and tell your personal story about why health reform matters to you, your family, and your community. Ask that they stand with their constituents and not the special interests. Our voices — and our health — matters. Rep. Steve King 1-202-225-4426 Issue Comments:
